The additions to the 2012 model are:
Bed rail protectors, Bodyguard Package, and SLE-2 3SB trim level. The 3.7L DOHC 5-cylinder SFI engine is no longer available on 1SA models. The 5-speed manual transmission is only available on 2WD Regular Cab 1SA models

The following has been deleted for 2012:
Merlot Jewel Metallic exterior color, Gray Green Metallic exterior color, Sport Suspension Package, and the Crew Cab Value Option Package.

Key Features for the 2012 GMC Canyon:
The GMC Canyon provides great performance with the 2.9L Vortec I4 engine delivering 185 horsepower along with a competitive 18 city/25 highway mpg for 2WD models with an automatic transmission. There is also an available 5.3L Vortec V8 engine which is rated at 300 horsepower. The vehicle is also equipped with a two-tier tailgate for added cargo hauling versatility. The Canyon’s cargo boxes feature four tie-downs, two-tier loading capability and a segment-exclusive 2-position tailgate. There are different suspension packages to choose from as well (Sport Suspension and Z71 Off-Road Suspension). There is also a standard bedliner which helps protect the cargo bed while providing a durable, slip resistant surface for easy, secure loading and unloading.

The GMC Canyon comes standard with OnStar directions and connections and combines all the safe and sound plan services with Turn-by-Turn Navigation and eNav. OnStar also includes automatic crash response to ensure that help will arrive as soon as possible. The vehicle also has the safety feature of StabiliTrak which improves control on all road surfaces at all speeds by continually comparing the driver’s steering input to the actual vehicle response. When a difference is detected, the system automatically adjusts braking and engine torque to help the driver bring the vehicle back on the path being steered.
